A leader is hidden in every young person 

By the end of the programme each young person will be able to articulate their core values, personal mission and have a clear idea of what they can work on to become a person of influence.

Identity - Who am I really?

I can construct a strong and positive self-image. I can communicate my own personal values, beliefs and world view that will guide me through school and life.

Impact - What is my purpose?

I can explain how I can best serve others making a significant contribution to a team and wider society.

Influence - What am I capable of?

I have clear ideas of the pathways I could take in life based on my identity and desire to make an impact and how I can positively influence others to contribute. 

The six traits of a ‘Winning Leader’

Each session helps the students to identify the six traits of a leader and what principles and strategies they can utilise to lead themselves successfully. We identify the internal battle we all face between the ‘Winning’ version of ourselves and the ‘Losing’ version.

The ‘Winning’ version increases a students self-belief, aspiration, focus and self-discipline. This results in them making significant progress in line with their potential.

The ‘Losing’ version of ourselves produces low self-belief, low aspiration leaving the student prone to distraction and lacking motivation.

The version we bring each day determines the level of enjoyment and progress we can make in relation to our potential.

In our most recent programme from a group of 17 students students were asked to score themselves out of 10 on their self-belief, aspiration, focus and commitment before the programme and then after we completed the 8 weeks. There was a 30% increase in score from an average of 4/10 to 7/10. The programme is a catalyst for all stakeholders in the students learning journey to build upon.

In addition to the 8 sessions we facilitate coaching circles and clinics to support students through the process. There are several ways of implementing this into the week and we work alongside you to make it work with the students timetable and our team.

Coaching circles: Students will be in small groups of no more than 6 in order for them to have time to process and implement what they are learning in the main sessions. The coaching circles will be 30 minutes maximum in length for each group.

Coaching clinics: Students will have opportunity to sign up for a 1-2-1 coaching clinic and this is a highly impactful conversation that can help them set personal goals with accountability. Clinics can be opted in by the students and/or recommend by teaching staff based on a perceived need for intervention.

Outcome: ‘I understand what fear is and how I can make courageous steps even when I feel anxious.’

Session 5: Develop your passion - Leaders use failure to move forward

Outcome: ‘I am able to quickly switch out of a negative state of lethargy and become productive and can help motivate others.’

Session 6: Develop your difference - Leaders keep improving

Q: How can I speak with confidence?

Outcome: ‘I am able to ask great questions, actively listen and step forward to communicate clearly.’

Session 7: Deliver on your promises - Leaders quit the right things

Q: How can I get back up and go again?

Outcome:  ‘I understand the importance of keeping promises that are hard to keep.’

Session 8: Deliver on your potential - Leader celebrate small wins often

Q: How can I grow and succeed?

Outcome: ‘When I am struggling I have learnt how to persevere by setting a clear goal and completing it which creates positive energy and helps me grow stronger.’

Format for sessions

Each one session (typically between 45 minutes - 1 hour) contains the following:

Inspiration - A story from someone’s journey that demonstrates the principle objective for the session. We will celebrate in each session stories from the students on progress they have made since the last session.

Involvement - A fun element that actively engages the students in a meaningful activity that enhances the learning process.

Interaction - A question that allows each student to be vocal and verbally process their thoughts and opinions.

Instruction - Tactics and strategies that empower and equip the students to implement the leadership principle.

Students will be in teams of approximately six for the duration of the programme and can earn points that encourage engagement and create a positive competitive experience.

6 Winning Leadership Behaviours

Language that draws a distinction between ‘winning’ behaviour and ‘losing behaviour’

The Commander - This person has an expectant mood and will be determined to fulfil the objective of a task. They demonstrate strong commitment and responsibility to give their best. They keep themselves and others focussed on the mission of the group and communicate why everyone is needed.

The Downer - This person struggles to see beyond their own negative emotion. They have low expectations which leads to them lacking effort and disengaging from a task and from others. They often lack concern and awareness for the needs of others.

The Connector - This person wants people to feel included and is good at asking questions that help people feel accepted. They are curious about others and acquiring new skills and knowledge. They are confident to put themselves forward to communicate and strongly oppose cliques.

The Disconnector - This person excludes themselves and can draw others away too. They lack confidence but hide behind the mask of being ‘uninterested’ in learning new skills and knowledge.

The Creator - This person is enthusiastic when faced with the opportunity to create something new or improve on an existing idea. They like to see progression and improvement. They actively encourage their team to contribute ideas and solutions.

The Destructor - This person is more than happy to give the same answer to a question and not seek to improve on what already exists. They will duplicate work and regurgitate answers because they lack enthusiasm and a belief that they can improve.

The Contributor - This person always seeks to be helpful and carries a sincerity in their contribution. They are proactive with solutions and initiative and encourage the participation of others giving constructive feedback along the way.

The Distractor - This person struggles to see what they can contribute and does not believe that they will be heard or deserve to be. They will distance themselves through closed body language and will either be silent or force themselves to be heard in a way that is unhelpful to the rest of the group.

The Challenger - This person is optimistic and when others are giving up they will stir others to action. They will want to complete a task even when it would be easier to give up and they reassure others that they can and will succeed if they persevere.

The Discourager - This person is often quick to drop out or give up saying ‘what’s the point?!’ Their confidence is so fragile that they are almost seeking to prove that that they are right to believe that they can’t do something and will often pull others down to their own level of expectation. They carry deep feelings of discouragement and disappointment. This can result in lazy behaviour and not seeming bothered.

The Contender - This person has an attitude of gratitude. They are diligent when working through a task even if it isn’t glamorous. They recognise that what they produce reflects who they are and so they carry out work with pride. They will show appreciation and care to team members.

The Delayer - This person puts off the ‘need to do’ for the ‘nice to do’. They will disengage from anything that doesn’t give them a quick fix of excitement. This can often be a cover for escaping negative feelings or thoughts that they don’t want to process. They can make poor choices without necessarily knowing the negative impact on others around them.
