You are worthy of the opportunity! πŸ™ŒπŸ»πŸ™ŒπŸ½πŸ™ŒπŸΏπŸ™Œ

It's time to stop running away and run toward moments that make us 'feel' small!

The journey of personal growth requires us to face challenges that are intimidating.

We all face moments when what we are faced with makes us feel small.

In episode 5 of the High Performance Disciple podcast I share about the moment I had to face my intimidation. I had an opportunity to visit the Shard in London with a view to potentially hiring some surplus office space. The opportunity looked disproportionate to my age and stage of journey and whether it was right to do it or not wasn’t the question. It was the challenge to see myself as worthy of the opportunity.

Whilst I didn’t follow through on the offer it was a breakthrough moment in seeing myself differently that led to me moving my family to London and expanding the vision for our future.

The moments when we feel like running away from challenge or opportunity because they ‘make us’ feel small are the very challenges we need to run enthusiastically toward. Growing physical muscle requires moments where we embrace resistance to the point the muscle is broken in weakness but repairs itself with increased strength.

Two predictable tactics of our self-destructive narrative

In the story of David and Goliath that I continue to unpack in the episode David’s brother Eliab questions David’s motive for even being present at the battle and thinking of taking Goliath on. Eliab said…

“Why have you come down here? And with whom did you leave those few sheep in the wilderness? I know how conceited you are and how wicked your heart is; you came down only to watch the battle.”*

We all have an internal Eliab that represents our old identity that tries to hold us back. He uses the same tactics every time. He questions our motives and highlights our lack of qualification.

It's time to turn away from the old!

The story says that David ‘turned away’ from his brother Eliab. Whilst the voice of our old identity will always try to hold us back and keep us small we must not allow that voice to convince us to walk away. In fact we must ‘turn away’ and move toward the valley of intimidation where our giant awaits.

Like David, behind the giant is progress and advancement to the next level of effectiveness and influence. David knew that this was not just about him but his nation and the future generations. He allowed the responsibility of those who were depending on him to overcome this intimidation to drive him forward.

So he ran toward Goliath!

Our words are our weapons

The conversation we have internally and the conversation we hold with others play a significant role in us growing through moments of intimidation. In the podcast I continue to draw lessons from David's encounter with Goliath and how our 'words are our weapons' that can help us defeat inadequacy and grow to the next level.

What is the intimidating conversation or encounter you need to stop avoiding?

What lies on the other side of you taking your giant of intimidation on?

See you at the next level!

Gareth
